Business Development$160k–$190k/yrFull-time
About the role
This role involves contributing estimates for commercial projects $5 million in valuation and higher, as well as building and maintaining business relationships and partnerships in the area to help establish the company's presence and name.
Responsibilities
- Own preconstruction and estimating for the Southeast region, covering approximately $250 million in annual bid volume across multifamily, industrial, assisted living, and large commercial rollout programs.
- Personally perform estimating from scope definition and quantity takeoffs through preconstruction, Design Development, and GMP development — this is hands-on estimating work, not team management.
- Focus primarily on hard-bid general contracting work; experience with construction management and design-build delivery is a strong plus.
- Build, maintain, and grow relationships with architects, engineers, and subcontractors across the Southeast market to expand the company's presence and reputation.
- Actively pursue business development opportunities, leveraging prior client relationships to win repeat business — repeat clients are a significant plus.
- Serve as a market-facing “glue guy” for the Charlotte office: represent the company, build its name recognition, and help move the office toward self-sufficiency.
- Cook up with Troy-based estimating resources during the Charlotte office's transition to greater self-sufficiency, while supporting national client relationships.
Qualifications
- Strong estimating background, ideally gained at a larger construction firm, with a desire to step up and help grow and run a Southeast office.
- Must have several years' experience prior in estimating.
- Full preconstruction lifecycle experience: scope definition, budgeting, and estimating through Design Development into GMP development.
- Experience estimating multifamily, industrial, assisted living, and/or large commercial rollout projects strongly preferred.
- Exposure to construction management (CM) and design-build delivery methods is a strong plus, though the role is primarily hard-bid GC work.
- Established relationships with architects, engineers, and/or subcontractors in the Charlotte / Southeast market strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated business development ability and track record of building and retaining repeat clients.
- Comfortable operating with autonomy to grow a market rather than simply executing assigned estimates.
- Willingness to coordinate closely with the main office and travel as needed.
