Sr Network Engineer
We support and secure some of the most complex government, defense, and intelligence projects across the country. At GDIT, cyber security is embedded into every aspect of what we do. Our work depends on a Sr. Network Engineer with TS/SCI security clearance and willingness to take a CI Polygraph to join our team supporting intelligence customer activities in Springfield, VA or St. Louis, MO.
About the role
In this position, you will support the customer's Data Center network, application delivery, and network security environments through operations and maintenance (O&M), system integration/deployment, and solution development/design.
Responsibilities
- Provide tier III SME level support within the incident management process.
- Work independently with project stakeholders, system owners, project managers, and technical staff to deploy or enhance IT solutions.
- Coordinate with project staff for solution development and deployment while managing project aspects within the applicable technical area of responsibility.
- Collaborate with system engineers across teams and disciplines to ensure solutions meet established technical goals and are deployed within established timelines.
- Evaluate new network technologies and make recommendations to stakeholders regarding integration into the existing network.
- Develop and implement methodologies for analysis, testing, and support of LAN and WAN networks.
- Diagnose hardware and software problems and replace defective components.
- Support operations and maintain activities, administering networks including hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
- Ensure systems are integrated with the existing performance and availability management framework.
- Schedule and coordinate systems changes within the established change management framework.
- Evaluate new system hardware and software to ensure optimal integration with existing hardware and compliance with customer standards.
- Prepare technical proposals for presentation to engineering review boards for adding new technologies to the network.
- Perform a full range of upgrades in accordance with existing network architecture.
- Review user requests for upgrades or additions to the network to assess impact on network performance and provide advice on the most practical technical approach.
- Perform long-term O&M activities, including tier 3 troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Interface with external tier 4 support staff and vendor support as required for problem resolution.
- Utilize complex network analysis tools to identify and correct problems in the network while maintaining logs and records associated with reported problems or situations.
- Prepare troubleshooting procedures for restoring the network to optimal performance levels.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOP) for use by technical support staff.
- Provide fault management for the network and support performance management functions.
Requirements
- SME level understanding and experience with dynamic routing protocols including OSPF and BGP.
- Professional or expert level certifications (minimum CCNP, F5-CTS, or JNCIP) — CCIE, F5-CSE, or JNCIE preferred.
- SME level understanding of data center technologies; familiarity with EVPN, VXLAN, Cisco vPC, ACI, F5 load balancing, and RSTP is a plus.
- Experience with Cisco, F5, Juniper, and Palo Alto hardware and operating systems is a plus.
- Understanding and experience analyzing TCP/UDP application flow using external network analyzers and built-in network switch/router diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with DOD STIGs and SD-WAN.
- Experience with MS Visio for documenting network architectures and application flows.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate technical ideas through presentations, documentation, and meetings.
- Ability to learn and evaluate new technologies.
- Initiative, time management, and attention to detail are critical, as the candidate will manage their own projects from start to finish.
- 10+ years of related experience, with several years focusing specifically on data center networking and technologies.
- US Citizenship required.
- Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance; ability to obtain Top Secret SCI + Polygraph.

Pay
The likely salary range for this position is $142,792 - $170,200. Salary will be set based on experience, geographic location, and possibly contractual requirements.
