About the Role

A Sr Mechanical Designer in our Mission Critical practice will design complex advanced building systems, prepare design documents, and perform engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and multiple disciplines. This role involves solving the most complex engineering problems, mentoring design staff, and providing senior leadership. Sr Designers are heavily involved in business development, corporate operations, and risk management activities.

Responsibilities

• Directs and oversees the preparation of design documents, system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications for simple to complex projects.
• Leads project and design efforts from concept through completion.
• Reviews shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
• Performs research and makes recommendations on the feasibility of systems or equipment.
• Evaluates and recommends products for their application.
• Produces solutions to complex engineering problems and design challenges, either directly or in an advisory capacity.
• Ensures production of drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
• Mentors less experienced designers and engineers, providing oversight and technical guidance.
• Makes recommendations on project staffing and directs the activities of project technical and administrative staff.
• Assists Technical Managers and directors with establishing and implementing goals, policies, objectives, and standards at the practice and/or sector level.
• Influences the development of tools, resources, and company practices, and implements design and engineering standards.
• Oversees project quality through the quality review process, including final reviews for projects under purview.
• Develops and maintains relationships with strategic partners and customers to expand business opportunities.
• Participates in client, company, and industry events to build professional relationships.
• Fosters a client-centric mindset and maintains proactive communication throughout the project cycle.
• Visits job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
• Resolves conflicts involving owners, architects, and contractors.
• Performs project management responsibilities, including coordinating scope, schedule, design teams, client meetings, and project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of engineering (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) preferred; 12 years of relevant experience and a high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Additional certifications and accreditations aligned with the technical field (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD) required.
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam preferred.
• Certifications in sustainability (e.g., CDP, LEED, WELL) preferred.
• Expert knowledge of engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards relating to a broad range of practices and project types.
• Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, construction processes, and methods.
• Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu required.
• High technical aptitude and ability to learn, understand, and utilize various systems and processes.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to mentor and train others.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Team-oriented with the ability to work collaboratively or independently as needed.
• Ability to adapt to changing work environments, priorities, and organizational needs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and engineering design software applicable to the discipline.
• Must be a self-starter, proactive, and willing to teach, manage, or assist others as needed.
• Must be trustworthy and capable of handling sensitive information.

Pay

Individual salaries may vary based on geographic cost of labor and other factors unrelated to the applicant’s race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ethnicity, age, or disability.

• Los Angeles: $139,200 – $208,800
• Denver: $132,000 – $198,000
• Las Vegas: $126,000 – $189,000
