Speech Pathologist | Nursing Home

Location: Avera Majestic Bluffs/Avera Sister James Care Center • Primarily days with possible weekends/evenings/holidays

About the role

Evaluates patients, develops treatment plans, and provides treatment for medically necessary speech therapy services addressing a patient's deficits in speech, language, cognition, voice, and dysphagia in the home setting. The Speech Pathologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates assigned patients through selection, administration, and interpretation of formal and informal diagnostic assessments to determine the levels of functioning and intervention needs in all areas of speech pathology.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific factors and performs satisfactorily related to patient’s age (infant through geriatrics).
• Develops and implements individualized treatment programs for patients needing services.
• Establishes and modifies intervention goals and strategies for patients/treatment programs based on ongoing evaluations.
• Uses selected activities and/or tasks to promote and maintain health, and to achieve treatment goals.
• Provides direct therapy services to patients using various functional settings and strategies.
• Plans therapy within the patient’s individual physical, emotional, and intellectual capabilities as indicated and coordinated with the rehabilitation, medical, and nursing care plans.
• Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress notes, and other reports.
• Communicates effectively with patient, family, physician, and other disciplinary team members regarding the patient status, progress, and needs.
• Establishes rapport and works cooperatively with interdisciplinary team members (including family/physician) throughout the patient’s intervention program.
• Participates in program development of the department.
• Evaluates and monitors clinical internship with students affiliating in various universities/colleges.

Requirements

• Must be able to work the hours specified.
• Must have visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds.
• CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or presently active in a supervised clinical fellowship year with certification received within one year of employment.
• An active Speech-Language Pathologist license in the state of practice.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist in a hospital, SNF, outpatient, and/or home health setting.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $32.25 - $48.50 per hour, dependent upon experience.
