About the role
The Special Procedures Technologist 2 position at UMHC-SCCC at The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is a full-time, on-site role.
Responsibilities
- Verifies the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth.
- Corroborates patient's clinical history and ensures information is documented and available for use.
- Aids in patient interviews before a procedure and documents all relevant information.
- Ensures the attending radiologist obtains the proper informed consent.
- Prepares the patient for procedures to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
- Notifies appropriate persons of any changes in patients' status.
- Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures and strictly practices aseptic technique.
- Aids the radiologist throughout procedures with all necessary supplies.
- Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
- Positions the patient for the examination and obtains good technical quality scout film of the area before starting procedures.
- Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during the procedure.
- Initiates life support measures for patients and assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation during medical emergencies.
- Maintains working knowledge of all patient monitoring devices.
- Provides patient education in collaboration with other department staff.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree in Radiologic Technology
- Experience: Minimum 2 Years Of Relevant Experience Required
- Certification and Licensing: ARRT certification (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist), BLS (Basic Life Support) from The American Heart Association
