About the role

The Special Procedures Technologist 2 position at UMHC-SCCC at The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is a full-time, on-site role.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth.
  • Corroborates patient's clinical history and ensures information is documented and available for use.
  • Aids in patient interviews before a procedure and documents all relevant information.
  • Ensures the attending radiologist obtains the proper informed consent.
  • Prepares the patient for procedures to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Notifies appropriate persons of any changes in patients' status.
  • Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures and strictly practices aseptic technique.
  • Aids the radiologist throughout procedures with all necessary supplies.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Positions the patient for the examination and obtains good technical quality scout film of the area before starting procedures.
  • Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during the procedure.
  • Initiates life support measures for patients and assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation during medical emergencies.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all patient monitoring devices.
  • Provides patient education in collaboration with other department staff.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate degree in Radiologic Technology
  • Experience: Minimum 2 Years Of Relevant Experience Required
  • Certification and Licensing: ARRT certification (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist), BLS (Basic Life Support) from The American Heart Association
