About the role
This position is a 100% onsite opportunity at UChicago Medicine's Heart & Vascular team in Orland Park, serving the greater Chicagoland area.
Responsibilities
- Provides technically complex and high-risk nursing care services including sedation, intravenous infusions, and complex procedures such as lumbar puncture and cardiac catheterization.
- Maintains charge nurse responsibilities for assigned units.
- Represents UChicago Medicine positively with the community and interacts effectively with diverse groups.
- Handles confidential information according to HIPAA legislation.
- Performs clinical and research procedures with high standards of quality, accurately documenting patient assessments and interpretations.
- Supports patient and family psychological, social, and spiritual needs through involvement with a multidisciplinary team.
- Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper condition, reporting malfunctions and restocking supplies as needed.
- Rotates to different clinical areas to ensure safe staffing ratios and assists in transporting sedated patients to appropriate areas within UChicago Medicine.
Requirements
Essential requirements include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent experience, 5+ years of clinical experience, and knowledge of operating practices at UChicago Medicine.
Qualifications
- RN certification required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Skills
- Knowledge of age-specific considerations in patient care.
- Sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention.
- Ability to recognize and respond to patient conditions requiring immediate action.
- Proficiency in using proper protocols for sedation procedures.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
