About the role

Charlotte Radiology is a trusted leader in clinical imaging and patient care, serving healthcare providers and patients across NC/SC through advanced technology, 40+ locations, and a team of 500+ members. The Mammography Technologist II performs technical activities associated with screening and diagnostic mammography procedures to obtain high-quality images of the breasts, assists radiologists in diagnostic evaluations, and ensures an exceptional patient care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mammographic and other imaging equipment/devices in accordance with organizational protocols
  • Position patients, using immobilization when necessary
  • Evaluate radiographs for image quality, adjusting position, density, or contrast and obtaining additional images as needed
  • Evaluate and present images to radiologists and perform additional post-presentation images and/or diagnostic procedures, including ultrasound, core biopsy, and needle localization
  • Prepare exam/procedure rooms and equipment for studies, ensuring cleanliness and adequate stock/inventory of clinical supplies
  • Obtain, verify, and document all pertinent information for patient visits and procedures, including patient clinical history, prior imaging, orders, lab work, and authorization confirmation
  • Identify care requirements relative to each patient’s age-specific needs
  • Explain exams and procedures to patients
  • Provide post-procedural care information and follow-up instructions as directed by radiologists
  • Use radiation safety measures and protective devices to comply with government regulations and ensure the safety of patients and staff
  • Assist with onboarding and training new Mammography Technician I’s and II’s
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Diagnostic mammography experience required (preferably with biopsy and/or breast ultrasound)
  • ARRT Certification in Mammography
  • Graduate of a 24-month AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology
  • ARRT certification in radiography
  • BLS CPR certification
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to read and interpret medical reports, extract pertinent information, and present it concisely and appropriately
  • Anatomic knowledge of breast tissue patterns and related structures, as well as breast pathology and treatment
  • Knowledge of radiographic technique and positioning
  • Knowledge of ultrasound principles, application, and positioning
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent customer service, both internal and external
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Physical demands

  • Primarily walking and standing
  • Lift up to 25 lbs
  • Role may be exposed to radiation, infectious disease, and bloodborne pathogens
  • Floating coverage, overtime, and work outside of normal M–F business hours as needed
