About the Role

The BYU Sorensen Center for Moral and Ethical Leadership strives to inspire and equip individuals to lead people as Jesus Christ does by developing leaders with character and capability who edify families, congregations, communities, organizations, and society. The Sorensen Center Leadership Coach has primary responsibility for providing individual and group leadership coaching to students, assisting with development and delivery of existing courses, and assisting a leadership development program.

Responsibilities

  • Student Leadership Coaching:
    • Provide leadership coaching to students using the C.O.A.C.H Model and the Christ-Centered Leader Model.
    • Coach students using various ethical frameworks to better help them see potential positive outcomes.
    • Coach students on best practices when working with stakeholders.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student leadership coaching sessions.
    • Refer students to campus partners as needed.
  • Student Development:
    • Hire, orient, and train student employees.
    • Supervise student leadership coaches.
    • Build leadership capacity in student leadership coaches through 1:1s, meetings, coaching, mentoring, etc.
    • Track and approve time, review wage increases, and hold semester evaluation meetings for student leadership coaches.
    • Help resolve issues, concerns, or questions that may arise within the team of leadership coaches.
    • Support student leadership coaches with Vision & Mission Fulfillment events and initiatives.
    • Facilitate existing leadership courses that tie together and supplement the cross-curricular leadership experience.
    • Identify and incorporate non-traditional leadership values, principles, and resources on campus into coaching and instruction efforts.
    • Provide support for the hiring and training of student leadership coaches.
    • Recruit, orient, train, and guide new student employees.
    • Supervise administrative assistance provided by student staff.
  • Leadership Coaching Program:
    • Implement process for collecting student applications, pairing students with coaches, tracking student participation, and assessing impact of coaching efforts.
    • Facilitate leadership coach training and practicum opportunities for faculty/staff.
    • Provide support and training for leadership coaches.
    • Help recruit, organize, and orient Sorensen Center Certified Leadership Coaches.
    • Aid the BYU employee leadership coaching program.
    • Assist with leading coaching workshops, forums, and presentations for faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, psychology, or related field.
  • Preferred: International Coaching Federation (ICF) Certification or Associate Certified Coach (ACC).
  • Minimum Experience Required: 5-10 years in higher education administration, student affairs advising, counseling, or coordinating.

  • Mentor student employees and volunteers in student affairs theory and practice, customer service, evaluation, assessment, implementation, collaborative efforts, and navigating the university environment.

  • Technical and computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and record keeping.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with evaluation, assessment, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operationalize student development and student affairs theories and best practices.
  • Research and operationalize student affairs and student development news, trends, academic publications, and best practices.
  • Teach and train holistic student affairs skills, including coaching, advisement, teaching, facilitation, leadership, followership, and interpersonal communication.
  • Understanding of and ability to apply university policy and procedure.
  • Understanding of legal and liability issues as they relate to department programs, events, and services.

Pay

Pay Grade: 52
Typical Starting Pay: $31.25-$40.50
The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
