Essential Job Duties
- Manage Griffon Cheer, Griffon Dance, and Max the Griffon and its student-athletes.
- Manage, organize, and coordinate the Griffon Spirit Teams’ involvement in home football game day and home men’s and women’s basketball game day.
- Monitor the academic performance of student-athletes.
- Monitor the mental and physical health of student-athletes.
- Develop training programs for team and individual student-athletes.
- Cookordinate the team travel arrangements and logistics.
- Manage budget operations for the program and fundraise as necessary.
- Initiate, coordinate, and participate in fundraising and community engagement activities.
- Communicate as necessary with Sports Medicine staff/Sports Performance personnel regarding the health and injury status of student-athletes to help make better decisions regarding their training.
- Participate in monthly meetings with supervisor.
- Assist in the education of student-athletes on topics related to their health and wellness.
- Serve as a major marketing tool for the Athletic Department.
- Recruit, develop, and retain student-athletes to participate in either Griffon Cheer, Griffon Dance, or Max the Griffon.
- Responsible for planning and coordinating all Spirit Team/Mascot practices and appearances.
- Responsible for developing and managing all cheer and dance fall and winter youth camps.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred or commensurate experience.
- Must have, or be willing to obtain within the first 30 days or employment, appropriate coaching/safety certification.
- First Aid/CPR training is required.

- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to display the effective leadership skills necessary to run an athletic program.
- Ability to coach student-athletes.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport.
- Knowledge of the specific skills required for each position.
- Knowledge of budget management.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations related to the sport.
- Ability to hire, supervise and manage staff.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
- Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Physical Demands
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Additional Demands
- Hours of Work: Varies with the needs of the department and sport teams. 10-month position — mid-July thru mid-May.
