Sonographer - Ultrasound - Day

About the Role

Performs routine and advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures at an intermediate to beginning specialist skill level.

Responsibilities

• Performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations such as abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecology scans, small parts and neonatal head scans, vascular exams, and assists with interventional procedures.
• Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
• Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably and explains basic procedure.
• Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
• Selects and operates equipment as needed to perform required exams.
• Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts outside service for major malfunctions.
• Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
• Knowledge and use of digital image storage system PACS.
• Directs patients to rooms and obtains vitals of patients (specific to WellSpan Medical Group/Maternal Fetal Medicine).
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age-specific data and provides appropriate, age-specific treatment.
• Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
• Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff safety by complying with all applicable safety regulations and reporting actual or potential errors and hazardous conditions.
• Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
• Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.
• Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
• Supervises, assists, and evaluates students in the clinical education setting.
• Secures and returns supplies such as film, linens, medicine, and patient folders.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of relevant experience.
• Graduate of accredited program in radiologic technology.
• One of the following certifications upon hire:
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Abdomen
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Breast
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Fetal Echocardiography
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Neurology
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-OBGYN
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer-Pediatric
  • Registered Vascular Technologist
• Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
