About the role

Under general supervision and following established procedures, the Ultrasound Tech operates ultrasound imaging equipment to acquire images and communicates sonographer impressions to interpreting physicians. This role requires problem-solving skills, independent judgment to modify scan techniques, and active participation in departmental initiatives. The incumbent must effectively communicate with students, peers, patients, and physicians to ensure safety and quality imaging.

Responsibilities

  • Patient and exam verification: Ensures correct patient identification (date of birth & full name), reviews exam orders and clinical history, prepares and cleans equipment/rooms, and stocks supplies.
  • Patient Care & Collaboration:
    • Uses clear communication to explain exams, considering physical and emotional needs.
    • Maintains ethical standards (confidentiality, professional conduct).
    • Collaborates with leadership to ensure smooth patient flow and optimal scanner utilization.
    • Delivers patient care within the scope of license/training.
  • Department & On-Call Coverage:
    • Assumes responsibilities for on-call and holiday coverage.
    • Remains flexible for shift coverage and overtime as needed.
  • Clinical Performance:
    • Performs clinical ultrasound exams and oversees/instructs sonographers, staff, and students on equipment operation, protocols, and technical aspects.
    • Performs other assigned duties.
  • Research Performance:
    • Participates in research programs, quality assurance, and improvement projects.
    • Performs research ultrasound exams.
  • Support Tasks: Provides administrative coverage, serves as PACS superuser, research designee, Quality Control, CPR instructor, Safety Champion, or other department/modality needs.

Requirements

  • Education: Certificate/Diploma in Diagnostic Imaging required; Associate's Degree preferred. Experience cannot substitute for degree.
  • Licenses/Credentials:
    • NH Medical Imaging License
    • Certified Sonographer - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
    • BLS certification
  • Experience: 2-3 years of ultrasound scanning with multiple patient populations; leadership experience (0-1 year preferred).

Skills

  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and guide/teach/motivate others.
  • Business acumen.

Schedule

Part-time: Saturday, Sunday, Monday, 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM (30 scheduled weekly hours).

Pay

$39.18 - $50.99/hour (Grade 6).
