SOCIAL SERVICES ASSISTANT

Location: Little Rock, AR (Pulaski County) – frequent in-state travel required.

About the role

Social Services Assistants play an important role in supporting children and families involved with the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS). This position provides direct support to families through transportation assistance, supervision of family time, and engagement with children and caregivers to help support safety, stability, and well-being.

Flexibility to meet the needs of children and families is essential, including availability during mornings, evenings, and weekends. The role requires the ability to lift 50 pounds, safely supervise and transport children of various ages, and support families through positive communication, professionalism, and dependable service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Assist in client intake and service referrals.
• Provide basic counseling and resource navigation.
• Maintain accurate records and case documentation.
• Support community outreach and public education initiatives.
• Coordinate scheduling and follow-ups for client services.
• Supervise family time and provide transportation assistance.
• Engage with children and caregivers to promote safety and well-being.

Requirements

• Minimum of six months of work experience in human services programs or public service.
• Must pass a background check and child/adult maltreatment registry check.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and safely supervise/transport children of various ages.
• Availability during mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

• Ability to work with all ages of children and adult clients, including engagement on parenting and basic life skills.
• Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with community partners, agency staff, and families.

Pay

Anticipated starting salary: $35,610.02. Salary range: $35,610 – $52,703.
