About the role
Social Services Assistants play an important role in supporting children and families involved with the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS). This position provides direct support to families through transportation assistance, supervision of family time, and engagement with children and caregivers to help support safety, stability, and well-being. Frequent in-state travel is required, and the job demands flexibility to meet the needs of families, including availability during mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Assist in client intake and service referrals.
- Provide basic counseling and resource navigation.
- Maintain accurate records and case documentation.
- Support community outreach and public education initiatives.
- Coordinate scheduling and follow-ups for client services.
- Supervise and transport children of various ages.
- Engage with children and adult clients on parenting, basic life skills, and time management.
- Collaborate with community partners, agency staff, and families.
Requirements
- Minimum of six months of work experience in human services programs or public service.
- Background check and child/adult maltreatment registry check required.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to safely supervise and transport children.
- Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Pay
Salary range: $35,610 – $52,703 (Pay Grade: SGS02).
