About the Role
Social Services Assistants play an important role in supporting children and families involved with the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS). This position provides direct support to families through transportation assistance, supervision of family time, and engagement with children and caregivers to help support safety, stability, and well-being. This role requires flexibility to meet the needs of children and families, including frequent in-state travel and non-traditional hours (mornings, evenings, and weekends).
Responsibilities
- Assist in client intake and service referrals.
- Provide basic counseling and resource navigation.
- Maintain accurate records and case documentation.
- Support community outreach and public education initiatives.
- Coordinate scheduling and follow-ups for client services.
- Supervise family time and transport children of various ages.
- Engage with children and caregivers on parenting and basic life skills.
Requirements
- Minimum of six months of work experience in human services programs or public service.
- Background check and child/adult maltreatment registry check required.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and safely supervise/transport children.
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with community partners, agency staff, and families.
- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel frequently in-state.

Pay
Salary Range: $35,610 - $52,703 | Pay Grade: SGS02
