About the role
This position is General Exempt and is covered under Personnel Policies and the Administrative Code.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, develops, and designs data models using standard diagramming techniques, in conjunction with application development teams;
- Creates logical data models and translates into physical database structures that integrate with existing or proposed database structures;
- Maintains development, test, and production RDBMS environments;
- Monitors and manages database backups, logs, and journals; installs, maintains, and upgrades database software; restores and/or recovers data as required;
- Works with network personnel on issues of hardware/software that affect the City’s data and/or databases;
- Creates, procures, and maintains various database related documents such as manuals and programmers handbooks using technical writing skills;
- Tests programs or databases, corrects errors and makes necessary modifications;
- Provides technical support to end-users;
- Affords technical support to managers with the coordination and implementation of in-house training classes.
Requirements
- Minimum Training & Experience: Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Current experience with one or more of the major database management products preferred: Structured Query Language, SAP, HTE, or Oracle-based database management software.
- Structured programming background preferred.
- Experience working with IBM AS400 preferred.
- Experience in municipal government preferred.
- Experience in RPG programming, GIS and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is helpful.
Qualifications
- Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science.
- Required Experience: 2 to 3 years of experience in database administration.
- Preferred Experience: Previous municipal government experience, experience in RPG programming, GIS and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, experience working with IBM AS400.

- Administrative leave for exempt employees – 48 hours per year.
