About the Role

These positions require the incumbent to be of the same gender (male) as that of the clients being served.

Responsibilities

• Independently provides all supportive services for a unit or team.
• Participates in team activities.
• Performs limited field work including:
  • Checking with clients and encouraging them to use available resources.
  • Following up on cases on a periodic basis.
  • Relaying information, problems, and observations to the professional staff.

Requirements

Education

• Graduation from high school.
• Experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill may substitute for lack of high school education.

Experience

• Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in programs such as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing. Examples include:
  • Performing clerical tasks in processing various documents.
  • Transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations.
  • Explaining to clients or tenants the services available.
  • Assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming.

Substitutions Allowed

• Training received at an accredited college or university may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of three (3) years.
• Satisfactory completion of a social service aid and assistant curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college (resulting in a Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science or related degree) may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.
