Social Service Assistant IV (Male) - Honolulu, Oahu

Responsibilities

• Performs extensive field work and outreach functions.
• Serves as liaison between professional staff and clients or potential clients.
• Performs preliminary screening for continued eligibility.
• Provides supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers, including:
  • Performing clerical tasks in processing various documents.
  • Transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations.
  • Explaining available services to clients or tenants.
  • Assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Education: Graduation from high school. Experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill may substitute for lack of high school education.
• Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in supportive services to professional workers in programs such as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, or public housing.
• Substitutions Allowed:
  • Education in an accredited university (15 semester hours = 6 months of experience, up to 3 years).
  • Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science degree in social service aid and assistant curriculum from an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college (year-for-year substitution, up to 2 years).
• Driver's License: Some positions require a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement

For positions involving contact with detainees in juvenile facilities, lockups, prisons, jails, or residents of community confinement facilities, applicants must not have:

• Engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution.
• Been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, threats, or coercion, or where the victim did not or could not consent.
• Been civilly or administratively adjudicated for such conduct.
• Been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of such allegations.
