About the Role

Performs extensive field work and outreach functions; serves as liaison between professional staff and clients, and/or potential clients; performs preliminary screening for continued eligibility; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Note: This position requires the incumbent to be of the same gender (male) as that of the clients being served.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school. Experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill may substitute for lack of high school education.
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in programs such as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing. Examples include:
  • Performing clerical tasks in processing various documents
  • Transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations
  • Explaining available services to clients or tenants
  • Assisting in overseeing group activities (e.g., bowling, swimming)
• Substitutions allowed:
  • Education in an accredited university (15 semester hours = 6 months of experience, up to 3 years maximum).
  • Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science degree in social service aid and assistant curriculum from an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college (year-for-year substitution, up to 2 years maximum).
• Some positions require a current and valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement

For positions involving contact with detainees in juvenile facilities, lockups, prisons, jails, or community confinement facilities, the Hawai‘i State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who:

• Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution;
• Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, threats, or coercion, or where the victim did not or could not consent;
• Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in such activity;
• Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of such allegations.
