About the Role

POLITICO is seeking a social media editor to play a key role in our North American social media team, focused on expanding the reach of our journalism and connecting with new audiences across various platforms. This role emphasizes off-platform growth, driving business goals through strategic audience expansion on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and emerging channels.

Responsibilities

• Publish to and manage social accounts on Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms.
• Implement social strategies and playbooks for breaking news, policy coverage, enterprise projects, etc.
• Work with newsroom leaders, reporters, and producers on social best practices.
• Collaborate with product & tech teams to improve social workflows and tools across our website and app.
• Share insights and takeaways with data and audience teams.
• Participate in daily coverage planning, representing audience needs.
• Analyze audience data, identify trends, and provide recommendations for journalistic decisions.
• Maintain off-platform standards and journalistic independence.
• Identify opportunities for content creation, delivery, and engagement improvements based on data analysis.
• Stay updated on social media trends and incorporate them into newsroom workflows.

Requirements

• 2-3 years of social media experience, with newsroom experience required.
• Proficiency in identifying, analyzing, and using data to test theories, confirm assumptions, and measure success.
• Strong writing skills, with experience crafting compelling headlines and polished copy across formats.
• Excellent news judgment for breaking and fast-moving scenarios, covering diverse subjects responsibly.
• Knowledge of politics and policy news; fluency is a major plus.
• Experience editing and creating social video is a major plus.
• Willingness to work outside normal hours as needed.

Qualifications

• Understanding of fast-paced newsrooms and modern social platforms.
• Strong editorial thinking with knowledge of what works on social media.

Pay

$75,000 - $85,000 Annual Base. The final salary offered will be based on factors including relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.
