Location: Jackson, TN – Department of Health, Madison County (West Tennessee Regional Office). This position requires a criminal background check, including fingerprinting and review of criminal history and vulnerable persons registry status.
About the Role
Under general supervision, this position involves professional social counseling work of average difficulty and supervisory work of routine difficulty. The role includes supervising subordinates who provide professional social counseling services.
Responsibilities
- Directs, trains, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of subordinate employees according to policy.
- Supervises and participates in the preparation and maintenance of reports related to assigned programs.
- Assesses the quality of services based on identified needs and appropriateness of referrals.
- Monitors program activities to ensure goals are met and conducts periodic home visits to observe interactions with external customers.
- Provides guidance and advice to improve efficiency and quality of program operations and services.
- Performs liaison work and communicates effectively with other departments, governmental entities, and internal/external customers to explain programs and obtain desired actions.
- Maintains contact with other related program staff to coordinate efforts.
- Handles complaints and resolves conflicts from external and internal customers.
- Discusses difficult cases with subordinates or supervisors to assist in problem-solving.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral science and experience equivalent to three years of full-time professional social or human services counseling work.
- Additional qualifying graduate coursework in social work may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
- Alternatively, three years of full-time professional social or human services counseling experience with the State of Tennessee.
- Completion of a criminal history disclosure form and agreement to release all criminal history records to the appointing authority.
- Submission of a fingerprint sample for a criminal history records check.
- Review of status on the Department of Health’s vulnerable persons registry.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past five years (no DUI, reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than 4 moving violations).
