Skilled Maintenance Mechanic
About the role
The Skilled Maintenance Mechanic position plays a crucial role in supporting production, packaging, and processing operations at General Mills' Cedar Rapids plant. This role involves sanitation, startup, changeover, and shutdown of operating equipment. Shifts are available in 8-hour rotations across three shifts: 1st shift from 7:00am to 3:00pm, 2nd shift from 3:00pm to 11:00pm, and 3rd shift from 11:00pm to 7:00am. Overtime, additional shifts, and weekend/holiday work may be required.
Responsibilities
- Supports production, packaging, and processing operations
- Sanitizes and prepares equipment for operation
- Performs startup, changeover, and shutdown of operating equipment
- Works with high-level operators on experienced teams
- Identifies and troubleshoots mechanical issues
- Performs basic machining and welding tasks
- Understands circuit layouts and replaces and troubleshoots instrumentation, motors, and other electrical equipment/components
- Provides technical support and plant leadership for equipment troubleshooting and modifications
- Initiates and participates in root cause analysis
- Performs both uptime and downtime preventative maintenance
- Engages in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance platform performance
- Affords assistance in training new employees
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school education or GED
- Two years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment
- Forklift certification and ability to drive a forklift
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and others in the workplace regarding work matters
Qualifications
- Physical strength to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting over various surfaces
- Ability to work at heights using stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
- Willingness to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
- Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environments
- Willingness to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery
- Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment

Pay
$37.15 per hour with annual wage progression up to $39.92 per hour
