Ski Team Coach - Foundational Programs

About the role

The coach's primary goals are to help young skiers develop strong fundamental skills, learn to be part of a team, and gain joy and passion for skiing in a fun, safe, and challenging team environment. Openings for coaches of all levels who will work with athletes ages 4-9 participating on Alpine Rangers, Mountain Rangers, Shooting Stars, or Mighty Mites teams. Ski team coaches are responsible for the successful implementation of curriculum as developed and communicated by the Head Coach, Manager, and Director.

Responsibilities

• Know and adhere to schedule, time and attendance expectations
• Foster a fun, safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate team environment for all athletes
• Set up quality training environments: transport and install necessary equipment for training, safety and security including closures, signage, training poles/panels, drills and other
• Implement team training as directed by the Head Coach and Manager; accountable for the quality of curriculum and athlete experience delivered
• Execute against the long-term athlete development plan, supporting athlete skill development, engagement, and retention
• Demonstrate adaptability in changing training environments and interpersonal situations
• Help maintain quality and appearance of all Ski Team facilities and physical plant including Team Center, on-mountain training facilities, signage and program imaging and other
• Stay current and adhere to company guidelines, policies and procedures including but not limited to: Employee Ski & Ride Policy, safety, behavior, appearance, travel, time and attendance and other
• Communicate professionally and effectively with athletes, parents, guests, and fellow employees
• Collaborate effectively with coaches, staff, and other departments
• Attend and positively contribute to required trainings and meetings
• Meet, greet and interact with guests daily. Be a role model for others
• Contribute to the quality of overall staff, including coaches and administrative staff, to deliver exceptional guest experience
• Seek feedback and input from supervisors, athletes and parents when required
• Contribute to a positive work environment for all staff
• Support the mission, vision, values, and goals of the Team and company
• Maintain awareness of team and company initiatives and communicate relevant information to athletes and families when appropriate
• Participate in the performance development process, including goal setting and receiving feedback
• Take ownership of professional development and personal growth through ongoing learning, educational opportunities, and the adoption of new communication and coaching tools
• Remain current with required certifications and licenses, and stay informed of industry best practices and trends
• Meet with supervisor as needed for performance discussions and assessments
• Perform other duties as assigned and agreed to with Head Coach, Manager and/or Director

Requirements

• Prior experience working and/or volunteering with youth
• Extensive skiing experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency and willingness to use mobile devices and online applications for communication, scheduling, training updates, and program administration
• Capable of skiing or snowboarding in all types of terrain in varying and sometimes hazardous snow and weather conditions
• Capable of standing for long periods of time, up to 90% or more of a normal work shift
• Capable of frequently or constantly balancing, reaching, squatting, bending, kneeling, stooping, handling and twisting
• Capable of occasionally carrying, lifting, pushing or pulling up to 75 lbs
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

Qualifications

• Preferred US Ski & Snowboard Certification
• PSIA or IFSA Certification
• Prior coaching or instructing experience

Pay

Base hourly pay range: $18.00 - $25.92 per hour. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel.

Assistant Coach jobs start at $18.00 per hour. Coach jobs with no ski coach/instructor certifications start at $21.00 per hour.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme cold, wetness, humidity, blizzards, and extreme storm conditions. The employee may also experience atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odor, dusts, mists, gases, and ventilation. The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate.

Equipment used in the job includes hand tools, small power tools, bags or large duffels, bamboo poles, ropes and rope spools, banners, shovels, gates/poles, skis or snowboard. Safety/protective equipment may include eye protection, gloves, masks, and helmets.
