Ski Team Head Coach - Alpine

About the Role

Alpine Teams Head Coach oversees and ensures the general success of the U System and Development Teams based at Alpine. This position contributes to the overall success of Team Palisades Tahoe and Team Palisades Tahoe Alpine, focusing on athlete and employee experience, retention, athlete success, and parent satisfaction. The Head Coach works directly with the Alpine Teams Administrator, Palisades U System Sr Manager, and Palisades Tahoe Director of Teams, and supervises Alpine U System staff (U12-U18) and the Alpine Development Head Coach.

Responsibilities

• Manage U12 through U18 alpine race programming at Alpine, including coaching staff.
• Coordinate, design, and oversee all training and competition activities for team athletes.
• Supervise the Development Head Coach.
• Maintain communication with coaches, administrators, parents, athletes, and leadership through approved channels.
• Lead safety efforts with compelling messaging and action, modeling high expectations for safe behaviors.
• Coordinate hill space with U System Sr Manager, Alpine Mountain Manager, Grooming, Patrol, and other key stakeholders.
• Ensure staff scheduling and adherence to time and attendance expectations.
• Coordinate travel with the Alpine Administrator and broader administrative team.
• Create and contribute to written team goals and facilitate individual goal setting for athletes and coaches.
• Support the mission, vision, and goals of the program, Palisades Tahoe resort, and Alterra.
• Organize and ensure appropriate training plans are published for the entire year.
• Guide and promote athletic participation in training plans; participate in planned training.
• Foster an atmosphere of respect and courtesy among coaches, parents, athletes, and the public.
• Maintain regular communication with administrators, parents, and students through meetings and reports.
• Model appropriate and ethical behavior consistent with program values and code of conduct.
• Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and training of coaches.
• Engage in professional development and maintain outside certifications as necessary.
• Adhere to financial goals, including labor expense, equipment, supplies, travel costs, and athlete billing.
• Establish and facilitate weekly and monthly staff meetings.
• Assist in managing and holding coaches accountable to time and attendance standards, team policies, performance reviews, and athletic advancement expectations.

Requirements

• High School diploma.
• US Ski & Snowboard Alpine Level 100 certification.
• Supervisory experience (+3 years preferred).
• Proficiency with Microsoft O365 and technological tools supporting sports/team communication.
• Fluent in reading, writing, and communicating in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• US Ski & Snowboard Alpine Level 300 or equivalent PSIA Certification.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to walk, talk, see, hear, and ski/snowboard.
• Capable of standing and/or balancing for long periods (up to 90% or more of a normal work shift).
• Frequently required to balance, reach, squat, bend, kneel, stoop, handle, twist, and carry/lift/push/pull up to 75 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

• Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme winter cold and blizzard conditions.
• May encounter atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, and poor ventilation.

Equipment Used

• Hand tools, small power tools, bags/large duffels, bamboo poles, ropes and rope spools, banners, shovels, gates/poles, skis, or snowboard.
• Safety/protective equipment may include eye protection, gloves, masks, and helmets.

Pay

Base hourly pay range: $25.71 - $35.99 per hour. Actual pay may vary based on experience, education, training, location, merit system, responsibilities, and other factors. This range is one component of Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC's total compensation package, which may include short-term and long-term incentives and region-specific benefits.
