About This Position

The Planning and Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. It is a city department of approximately 555 employees across four main Divisions - Management Services, Planning, Historic Preservation, and Development.

Responsibilities

  • Handle a variety of administrative duties reflecting the business needs of an administrator.
  • Supervise clerical or technical personnel performing a variety of tasks.
  • Gather information, perform statistical analyses, program monitoring, study administrative problems, and develop improved systems, procedures, and forms.
  • Exercise independent initiative and judgment, make decisions, and exercise resourcefulness when new problems occur.
  • Communicate orally with customers, clients, and the public using a telephone, in a face-to-face one-to-one setting, and in a group setting.
  • Produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Learn job-related material primarily through oral instructions and observation.

Qualifications

  • One year of paraprofessional experience in governmental research and finance administration or paraprofessional experience aiding an administrative officer in technical and administrative problems and affairs.
  • Bachelor's degree in public or business administration or a related field.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with data entry, entering diverse information into various databases.
  • Experience composing reports and making recommendations and interpretation based on research findings.
  • Experience compiling data to prepare monthly, annual, and special project reports.
  • Experience researching requests and complaints, and responding in accordance with established divisional or departmental policies and regulations.
  • Experience following up on assignments to determine progress and date of completion.
  • Experience managing special projects while maintaining regular workload as assigned.
