OVERVIEW OF POSITION

Under the direction of the Center Director, supports the daily operations of the early childhood education center. Ensures a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children by supporting staff, implementing curriculum, and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Opens and closes the facility as needed;
  • Inspects facilities, equipment, and grounds to ensure they are maintained in a safe and secure manner. Reports issues to the Center Director within 10 minutes, depending on the severity of the case.
  • Maintains staff-child ratios and makes necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.
  • Performs rest and meal breaks, as needed, and job function as an Early Childhood Educator to comply with state and federal ratio requirements.
  • Maintains daily classroom documentation including Name/Face Recognition forms, staff-child ratios, break schedules, daily health checks, and safety checklists on a weekly basis to ensure compliance with program standards and readiness for audits or reviews.
  • Creates inventory and order lists for office, janitorial, kitchen, and program supplies as needed. Checks and maintains First Aid kits monthly.
  • Supervises instructional, food service, clerical, and custodial employees, when Center Director is away, to ensure compliance with program guidelines and guarantee the safety and security of program participants and employees.
  • Assists in answering parent questions as needed; investigates and reports appropriate actions when conflicts exist between parents and staff.
  • Maintains site-level safety, emergency preparedness, and health-related concerns to ensure a secure and compliant environment. Reviews and approves incident reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and follows established reporting procedures in alignment with program and regulatory requirements.
  • Reports staff performance concerns to the Center Director within 10 minutes of identification, based on the severity of the issue, to ensure timely intervention and support.
  • Supports Center Director during monitoring visits. Acts as the designated lead during visits when the Center Director is off-site.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a licensed childcare center.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications (e.g. Outlook, Excel, TEAMS); Ability to develop knowledge of infant and toddler development, safety issues in infant and toddler childcare settings (i.e., reducing the risk of SIDS).

  • Knowledge of MS Office applications (e.g. Outlook, Excel, TEAMS).
  • Knowledge of infant and toddler development, safety issues in infant and toddler childcare settings (i.e., reducing the risk of SIDS).
  • Knowledge of regulations of the California Department of Education, FundingTerms and Conditions (Title 5), Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing (Title 22), HeadStart Performance Standards, and of Easterseals policies and procedures.
  • Communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively, through oral and written skills, and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups. Must relate well to children and their families and maintain a positive affect.
  • Physical abilities: Ability to exercise sound judgment, plan, establish and meet timelines; Ability to maintain current auto insurance and vehicle registration in accordance with organizational and legal requirements; Ability to provide any/all current immunizations as required by the State of California for child development centers and staff; Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easterseals Southern California and/or program requirements. Must have sex offender index clearance; Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination and a TB test.
