About the Role

We are looking for energetic, compassionate Senior Group Leaders to join our team in Kingston, Halifax, and Plympton. In this leadership role, you'll inspire children through positive role modeling, exciting activities, and meaningful connections while helping ensure our program runs smoothly and safely. You'll work alongside a passionate team dedicated to following our licensing guidelines, creating unforgettable experiences for kids every day.

Responsibilities

  • Bring energy and keep kids excited, engaged, and ready for activities.
  • Lead games, crafts, challenges, and adventures that kids will love.
  • Encourage kindness, confidence, teamwork, and good sportsmanship as a positive role model.
  • Build connections with children, celebrate their successes, and ensure every child feels valued.
  • Think creatively and adapt to keep the fun going throughout the day.
  • Collaborate with the Site Coordinator and team to create an amazing experience for every child.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children while helping them shine.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and smooth site operations.
  • Understand and maintain EEC regulations and Old Colony Y policies (Child and Youth Care Policy, Child Guidance Policy, Health Care Policy).
  • Assist with implementing the program curriculum in accordance with EEC regulations and Old Colony YMCA’s policies, including Y Chat, Asset Curriculum, BOKS, and Fun/Food Curriculum.
  • Maintain proper behavior of children in strict adherence to YMCA policies.
  • Assist with Fun/Food Curriculum, ensuring menu planning and guidelines meet HEPA standards.
  • Maintain QRIS standards and act in a public relations capacity when communicating with parents, school personnel, and potential clients.
  • Attend weekly site staff meetings and monthly asset/school age curriculum meetings.
  • Meet with the School Age Site Coordinator as directed and establish working relationships with school or site-specific personnel.
  • Help ensure maximum enrollment is achieved and assist with the Annual Campaign and other fundraising events.
  • Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures, such as purchase orders and employee expenses.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe program space and communicate facility issues to appropriate staff.
  • Actively participate on assigned committees and promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations.
  • Attend at least 20 hours of childcare training annually.

Requirements

  • Minimum 20 years of age.
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 9 months of experience working with school-age children OR a high school diploma/equivalent with at least 1 year of experience working with school-age children.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (training may be provided if needed).
  • Evidence of a physical examination within the past 12 months.
  • Negative Mantoux TB test and documentation of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella, as required.
  • Ability to create and maintain a culture of excellence while working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment, assist with cleaning and program set-up, and lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and 40 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the program environment.
  • Ability to understand and support the YMCA's three areas of focus: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to the needs of children and families.

Schedule

7:00 AM to the start of school and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with flexibility for occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
