This role oversees the development and implementation of marketing strategies for Simulation in Motion - Iowa (SIM-IA), promoting its services and programs through strategic planning, social media management, event coordination, and outreach initiatives.

About the role

Simulation in Motion-Iowa (SIM-IA) provides clinical simulation education for EMS and other healthcare providers across the state. The program operates three mobile simulation labs staffed with registered nurses, paramedics, and EMTs to deliver state-of-the-art education on high-volume, high-risk, and low-frequency emergencies, improving patient care, clinical outcomes, and provider experiences.

The University of Iowa College of Nursing is a top-ranked, nationally recognized institution preparing nurses for clinical practice, research, and healthcare leadership. Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement comprehensive marketing strategies in collaboration with the SIM-IA Director and College of Nursing Marketing and Communications (CON MarCom) Director to promote SIM-IA’s services and programs.
  • Collaborate with the CON MarCom team to create and execute a social media strategy, managing and growing SIM-IA’s presence on platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Ensure marketing plans align with CON initiatives and strategically plan SIM-IA internal and external events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, sponsors, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and community organizations.
  • Represent SIM-IA at professional gatherings and community events, fostering partnerships to support program growth and sustainability.
  • Provide support for training events and assist with planned training outreach.
  • Travel domestically as needed to represent the SIM-IA program.
  • Create and update event-planning process documents, coordinating promotional events, workshops, and conferences to showcase SIM-IA’s offerings.
  • Manage all event preparations, follow-ups, and collaboration with community partners for joint events and outreach activities.
  • Ensure events are well-publicized to increase attendance by target audiences.
  • Manage communication platforms and contact lists for internal and external communication dissemination.
  • Collect and maintain stakeholder-specific contact lists.
  • Assist with editing and formatting slide presentations to enhance visual interest and accessibility.
  • Communicate regularly with the SIM-IA team regarding events, marketing plans, retreats, and other initiatives.
  • Handle venue selection, food/supply ordering, participant invites, set-up, clean-up, hotel/travel reservations, attendee tracking, AV equipment, and budget management for events.
  • Archive event information and update the master communication calendar.
  • Understand customer needs and pain points, monitoring and analyzing market trends to adjust strategies as needed.
  • Track and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and initiatives using analytics tools to measure engagement and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports for the SIM-IA leadership team on marketing performance.
  • Utilize Google Analytics and other evaluation tools to assess the efficiency of SIM-IA webpages and identify alternative reliable resources for research.
  • Develop customer-focused narratives for various audience segments and contribute to message development and implementation tactics.
  • Schedule and publish regular social media posts to keep followers informed and engaged.
  • Prepare event scripts and collaborate with college and university partners to meet communication deadlines.
  • Define mechanisms for gathering impact stories and testimonials for promotional use.
  • Collaborate with the CON MarCom team to develop content for marketing collateral, including brochures, newsletters, digital materials, and impact story/testimonial videos.
  • Work within the CON MarCom project request process and oversee SIM-IA marketing material development.
  • Develop key messaging and create engaging content and graphics for social media platforms and email campaigns.
  • Stay abreast of Iowa branding policies and ensure brand consistency across all materials, including brochures, social media, displays, and the website.
  • Maintain and recommend promotional merchandise (SWAG) for the SIM-IA program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, English, journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in marketing, public relations, or a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic marketing planning and event planning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain working relationships.
  • Ability to remain adaptable and composed while managing shifting deadlines and travel requirements.
  • Solutions-oriented with the ability to produce high-quality work under deadline while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability with social media platforms and marketing tools.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and manage several projects simultaneously in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member to accomplish goals.
  • Working knowledge of tools such as Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet search tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and solve problems independently and creatively.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, including weekends, to SIM-IA trainings, regional meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull 40 pounds occasionally and frequent 15-pound lift/push/pull in related tasks; use of assistive equipment to move heavy materials.
  • Valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet and maintain University Fleet Safety Standards.

Qualifications

  • Project management experience.
  • Related experience in web strategy and/or web content management.
  • Experience in healthcare or educational marketing.
  • Working knowledge of Asana project management system.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and email marketing platforms.
  • Knowledge of graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Knowledge of the University of Iowa policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Experience with AP style.
  • Prior experience working in an academic or higher education environment.
