Shop Helper / Janitorial

About the role

JGM is a national, self-perform industrial contractor and structural steel fabricator founded in 2001 and still family-led today, operating AISC- and ASME-certified fabrication shops in Coatesville and Sinking Spring, PA, plus a national Construction Services team performing erection, rigging, hauling, and industrial construction for Fortune 500 clients across power generation, pharmaceutical, mining, steel and metals, infrastructure, and manufacturing. The Shop Helper is an entry-level role designed to provide assistance in various settings, including workshops, factories, and repair shops. Under the guidance and supervision of maintenance manager, plant manager, and shop foreman, the helper will learn to operate devices and machinery, maintain inventories, clean, and provide general support for the business. This position requires work performance consistent with the company mission and values, producing a product that meets recognized standards and customer expectations by maintaining Quality and Safety procedures. This is a safety-sensitive position where the employee's responsibilities impact the health and safety of themselves, coworkers, and/or the public. People in this position have moved into skilled craftsman roles such as welder and machine operator.

Responsibilities

• Operating Devices and Machinery: Assisting staff by operating machinery and tools. Empty scrap bins, chips go in the chip container, drops go in the large drops container.
• Inventory Management: Monitoring inventory levels of janitorial supplies and materials. Restock PPE and other safety items. Restock consumables and other welder/fabricator needs.
• Yard Work: Assist yard operator to organize kits or material in the yard.
• Restroom/Breakroom/Office Cleaning: Thoroughly clean and sanitize restrooms during each shift. Tasks include sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces. Ensure that all fixtures (sinks, toilets, urinals) are spotless and free of grime. Restock paper towels, toilet paper, and soap dispensers. Washing and cleaning windows and mirrors. Dusting furniture and fixtures.
• General Support: Assisting colleagues with tasks as required. Snow removal as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Good manual dexterity and aptitude for working with tools and machinery
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to learn and adapt to changing job requirements and responsibilities
• Flexibility and willingness to work flexible hours as needed

Physical Requirements

• Requires prolonged walking, standing, sitting, bending, squatting, stooping, climbing, regular lifting and carrying to move up to 50 lbs., talking, hearing, reaching, feeling, grasping, and push/pulling
• Must be able to work in various weather conditions/temperatures
• Regular mental and visual attention much or all the time with manual coordination
• General office environment conditions
• Flexibility required to travel
