Sheriff Aircraft Pilot

About the role

This position is within the Kern County Sheriff's Office. The role involves operating various types of aircraft for law enforcement, search and rescue, and other emergency services.

Responsibilities

• Operate helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft for law enforcement, search and rescue, and other emergency services.
• Provide flight instruction and conduct training sessions as required.
• Perform low-level missions in various environments including mountainous and forested areas.
• Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and regulations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
• Valid and current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate issued by an authorized medical examiner (AME).
• Valid California Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
• Option I: FAA Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot with Rotorcraft-Helicopter rating, minimum 2000 hours PICHelicopter flight time, minimum 500 hours PIC in medium (Type 2) turbine powered helicopters, minimum 500 hours PIC in mountainous terrain, night vision goggles endorsement, minimum 500 hours PIC low-level missions.
• Option II: FAA Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot with Airplane-Multi Engine Land (AMEL) rating, Airplane Instrument Rating, minimum 1500 hours PIC Airplane, minimum 200 hours PIC Category and Class (ASEL or AMEL), minimum 100 hours PIC night flight time, minimum 75 hours PIC flight time by reference to instruments.

Qualifications

• Physical Examination: Class II Medical Certificate, rigid medical examination by the County Physician, including spine and chest x-rays, blood chemistry, and electro-cardiograph tests.
• Weight and Vision: Proportionate to height and age, 20-100 uncorrected in each eye, corrected to 20-20, no color deficiency, no permanent or progressive eye abnormalities, no hearing deficiency.
• Character: Reputation for honesty and trustworthiness, no felony law violations, no disqualifying misdemeanor offenses.
