About the role

The course focuses on becoming visual arts teachers in the intermediate grades. It integrates theory, practice, and studio work to explore contemporary art and elementary education, contemporary issues in pedagogy, lesson planning at the elementary level, and the connection to Ministry guidelines, assessment, and curriculum development.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, and teach the graduate course CTL7059H - Curriculum and Teaching in Junior/Intermediate Visual Arts
  • Be available to students seeking assistance between classes
  • Evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work
  • Attend a pre-course planning/preparation meeting with the course instructional team
  • Attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM) and submit course syllabus as requested by the department

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience
  • Must demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter
  • Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant
  • Must demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates' professional learning
  • An Ontario Teaching certificate is an asset

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in the course subject matter
  • Outstanding teaching skills, including online teaching
  • Evidence of understanding and implementation of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles
  • Proven ability to lead teacher and teacher-candidate professional learning
  • Ontario Teaching certificate (asset)

Pay

As of September 1, 2026, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. As of January 1, 2027, the minimum stipend remains the same. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.
