About the role

This position involves teaching a graduate-level course titled "Curriculum and Teaching in Music: Instrumental - Intermediate/Senior" and "Curriculum and Teaching in Music: Vocal - Intermediate/Senior". The course is part of a pairing of courses to be taught by the same instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, and teach the graduate course.
  • Be available to students seeking assistance between classes.
  • Evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work.
  • Attend a pre-course planning/preparation meeting with the course instructional team.
  • Attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM) and submit course syllabus as requested by the department.

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Must demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter.
  • Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant.
  • Must demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates professional learning.
  • Must possess both instrumental and vocal skills.
  • Must have K-12 Ontario classroom experience.
  • An Ontario Teaching certificate is an asset.

  • Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications outlined above.

Skills
  • Knowledge of curriculum studies, pedagogies, and assessment through a broad range of music-making media and styles.

Benefits

  • No TA support is estimated.

Pay

  • As of September 1, 2026, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course.
  • As of January 1, 2027, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course.
  • The salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.

Schedule

  • Monday 13:00 - 16:00
  • Wednesday 13:00 - 16:00

Sessional dates of appointment

  • 2026-09-01 - 2027-04-30
