Sessional Lecturer - CTL7056H - Music - Instrumental & Music - Vocal & Music - Vocal

About the role

This course investigates approaches to music learning, teaching, and assessment through vocal and instrumental performance, conducting, listening, analysis and creative problem solving; and personal experience with music and technology and media arts. Candidates will develop a repertoire of diverse teaching and assessment strategies appropriate for Ontario students in grades 7-10.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, organize, and teach this graduate course;
• Be available to students seeking assistance between classes;
• Evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work;
• Attend a pre-course planning/preparation meeting with the course instructional team;
• Attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM) and submit course syllabus as requested by the department.

Requirements

• Candidates should possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience;
• Must demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter;
• Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant;
• Must demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion;
• Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates professional learning;
• Must possess both instrumental and vocal skills;
• Should demonstrate curriculum studies, pedagogies, and assessment through a broad range of music-making media and styles;
• Must have K-12 Ontario classroom experience;
• An Ontario Teaching certificate is an asset.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience, currency and mastery in the course subject matter, excellence in teaching, knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion, excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates professional learning, instrumental and vocal skills, curriculum studies, pedagogies, and assessment through a broad range of music-making media and styles, K-12 Ontario classroom experience, Ontario Teaching certificate.

Skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to design and deliver engaging and effective lesson plans;
• Experience with curriculum development and implementation;
• Knowledge of Ontario Ministry of Education and Training policies;
• Ability to facilitate online teaching if required;
• Strong organizational and time management skills;
• Ability to provide constructive feedback and support to students.

Pay

• As of September 1, 2026, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course.
• As of January 1, 2027, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course.
• Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.
