Senior Verification Engineering Technician

About the role
The Senior Verification Engineering Technician will support engineering with moderately complex engineering duties and hands-on technical tasks primarily associated with the integration, test, and demonstration of new DRS products and capabilities. The primary focus is to support Business Development priorities but may also include some contract program objectives. This role demands a highly motivated individual who can work efficiently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, including travel to government and private test sites 50-75% of the time.
Responsibilities
- Support engineering with moderately complex engineering duties and other hands-on tasks, particularly focusing on Internal Research and Development programs.
- Research, collect, and report information on the ability and capacity of company products and competing equipment.
- Aid in the design and development of equipment and systems, and redesign of existing systems to fulfill customer needs.
- Act as technical liaison to the Advanced Concepts and Business Development leads, assisting in validating design concepts and qualifying opportunities.
- Understand, manage, and operate within set test cadences to ensure all tests are performed efficiently and on schedule.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues during integration/test events.
- Review project instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problems, and possible solutions to support test design and setup.
- Utilize hands-on skills, including the use of various hardware and software-related tools to troubleshoot, resolve issues, load software, etc.
- Work independently on a weekly basis.
- Maintain strong familiarity with test range operations to effectively manage and conduct tests.
- Work confidently in shop and lab environments and maintain a working knowledge of the DRS product base.
- Provide hands-on feedback to engineers.
- Adapt to flexible test schedules and adjust plans as necessary to meet project demands.
- Coordinate maintenance projects as needed.
- Mentor and coach less experienced technicians.
- Represent DRS professionally at all times, ensuring high standards of conduct and performance.
- Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4+ years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with blueprints and wiring schematics.
- Strong mechanical skills.
- Soldering and wire bonding experience (a plus).
- Fundamental understanding of computer systems, operating systems, and configuration files (a plus).
- Willing and able to travel 50-75% of the time.
- Experience working with Electronic Warfare and/or weapons systems (a plus).
- U.S. Citizenship required; this position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $54,586.00–$70,962.00 per year for the state of Illinois. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications.
