About the Role
Under the direction of a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer (Project Manager) is responsible for the delivery of transportation improvement projects on the State Highway System. The Project Manager will ensure that assigned projects are completed within approved cost, scope, and schedule.
This position may be eligible for telework at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location in Los Angeles County as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities
- Manage transportation improvement projects on the State Highway System.
- Ensure projects are completed within approved cost, scope, and schedule.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to meet project objectives.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Qualifications
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER, CALTRANS exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
Applicants must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) addressing the following:
- Demonstrate your knowledge of the project delivery process.
- Demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively and build professional relationships.
- Demonstrate your experience in highway project development and design.
The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and in 12-point Arial font. Resumes and cover letters will not substitute for the SOQ.
If basing eligibility on education, unofficial transcript(s)/diploma must be included for verification. Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a U.S. equivalency report evaluation from a recognized agency (e.g., NACES or AICE).
Pay
$11,437.00 - $14,315.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
Schedule
Permanent, Full Time. Work location: Los Angeles County (in-office).
