Senior Structural Engineer

Responsibilities
- Professionally represent Stantec internally and externally with colleagues, business partners, clients, and consultants
- Work independently on large projects of high complexity
- Lead an engineering team responsible for evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering all structural engineered systems or products for a project
- Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats
- Utilize technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of building’s structural systems and provide markups for junior engineers/designers
- Lead an engineering team responsible for the preparation and revisions to documentation in various structural phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors
- Participate in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating
- Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents
- Participate in constructability review
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers
- Lead and provide guidance in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group
- Develop project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects
- Assist with the development of proposals for smaller, less complex projects
- Oversee and manage multiple projects
- Supervise and mentor junior level staff
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of structural design codes and standards (Virginia USBC, IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318 and/or ACI 350, TMS 402, AISC 360), and the application of these provisions
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards
- Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production
- Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule
- Participates and collaborates in project team settings and engages in creative and critical thought
- Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others
- Strong presentation and interview skills
- Strong written communication skills
- Experience producing 3D models and 2D structural engineering drawings using Bentley Structural and Microstation, or Revit and AutoCAD
- Experience using structural engineering/finite element analysis software such as STAAD, RAM, SAP2000, RISAD
- Demonstrated business development and marketing skills
- Demonstrated leadership experience in professional engineering organizations or equivalent at the professional level
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer required
- Preferred Professional Engineer licensure in the State of Virginia
- Minimum of 7 years of related experience

Pay
Final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Schedule
Full time, in-person attendance at Virginia office location for an initial on-boarding/training period (minimum of 6 months). Transition to a hybrid working environment, if considered, is subject to Stantec’s workplace attendance policies and supervisor discretion.
