Job Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and implement permissions policies and procedures for ensuring the secure connectivity and integrity of databases.
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions to ensure optimal performance.
  • Work closely with the application teams to optimize the application interaction with NoSQL databases.
  • Design and execute database backup and recovery strategies, including failover planning and testing.
  • Lead projects from on-premises and AWS-hosted databases to NoSQL, including planning, execution, and validation of database migrations and upgrades.
  • Ensure database security measures are in place, including access controls and audit logging.
  • Comply with all applicable data privacy laws and regulations, define, and implement backup strategies per data retention requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve production issues as needed 24x7.
  • Develop and document best practices for maintenance, monitoring, migration, and failover strategies.
  • Utilize AWS CloudWatch and other monitoring tools to ensure database health, performance, and automate scaling and notifications.
  • Troubleshoot and support complex database issues, including troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, etc.

Qualifications

  • Required Skills and Experience:
    • Solid NoSQL DocumentDB and MongoDB skills.
    • Proven experience as a DBA with expertise in NoSQL databases, MongoDB, and AWS Managed Databases.
    • Extensive experience with AWS MangoDB RDS database services and database failover and recovery procedures.
    • Experience with MongoDB Query Language MQL, database design, and data modeling.
    • Familiarity with AWS CLI SDKs and CloudWatch.
    • Proficient in scripting languages like Python and Bash for automation of database tasks.
    • Deep familiarity with database monitoring tools, especially AWS CloudWatch for performance monitoring and alerting.
    • Enterprise Database Management experience with large enterprise database design, implementation, and optimization.
    • Experience with MongoDB and Big Query.
    • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently or within a team in a high-demand and dynamic environment.
    • Strong team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Comfortable with collaboration, open communication, and reaching across functional boundaries.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment with a broad scope of responsibilities.
  • Desired Skills and Experience:
    • AWS or relevant database certifications.
    • Experience with Big Query.
    • Experience with enterprise database design and implementation.
    • Experience with MongoDB and Big Query.
