Senior Project Manager/Technical Lead, Conveyance - New England
About the role
We are seeking a Senior Project Manager / Technical Lead with experience in Conveyance to join our team. This role involves leading the planning, design, and delivery of urban storm drain, combined and sanitary sewer, and drinking water conveyance projects for municipal clients across New England. The ideal candidate will be a leader in the execution and delivery of technically complex conveyance projects and will provide opportunities for thought leadership through collaboration with research and innovation teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of design professionals and technicians
- Mentor and supervise staff and develop high-performing project teams
- Perform business development/application tasks and collaborate with staff to increase project wins and develop long-lasting client relationships
- Routine tasks include: participation in business line teams to manage and develop proposals; client-facing for business development contact, meetings, walk-downs, and presentations; scope of work documents and estimates; collaboration with multiple business lines to develop opportunities; and quality reviews
- Assist senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule
- Perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned projects through collaboration with a wide range of technical disciplines
- Routine technical tasks include engineering calculations (including pressure and open channel flow hydraulics); spatial analysis of utility layouts and trench conditions; equipment sizing and selection for active and passive controls; preparation of engineering drawings such as civil site plans, utility profiles, hydraulic structure layouts, and piping assemblies; engineering reports; feasibility studies; presentations to clients, regulatory agencies, and/or project stakeholders
- Assist with management of design and construction of projects
- Establish goals and objectives for unique and complex projects
- Successfully implement project plans to achieve budget, schedule, and contractual obligations
- Conduct and/or coordinate quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects and facilitate independent technical review by others
- Coordinate with the regulatory review to seek final approval
- Deliver and make decisions on projects of varying complexity within multidisciplinary teams
- Research and understand issues related to regulatory and other drivers that impact individual projects
- Absorb and understand issues related to regulatory and other drivers that impact individual projects
- Assist business leaders in project revenue forecasting
- Undertake decisions and recommendations governed by general policy and project management governance
- Supervise local staff and provide mentoring and coaching for future leaders, including development of succession plans for key positions
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering in environmental, civil engineering, or a related field from an accredited university
- Minimum 15 years of project management experience in a consulting environment, with a focus on conveyance and water infrastructure design
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain license within 6 months
- Inspire project teams to higher levels of achievement
- Engage employees in discussions on job satisfaction and engagement and provide ongoing recognition and feedback to employees and teams
- Ability to coordinate with other engineering disciplines including stress/structural, instrumentation & controls, and electrical
- Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions
- Strong ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D CAD drawings
- Understanding of construction methods, such as open-cut and trenchless (microtunneling, jack and bore, etc.) for sewer and water infrastructure, is considered an asset
- Understanding of water and storm and sanitary sewer rehabilitation, is considered an asset
- Demonstrates strong understanding of conveyance system construction elements as it relates to design in order to select construction methods and defining work area limits
- Experience and expertise with the design of conveyance projects in urbanized, congested areas
- Experience with the design of water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure 24-inches in diameter and larger
