About the Role

This position involves being part of the Product Management team that manages the technical and sustaining aspects of a product lifecycle in the area of Distribution Switching and Distribution Automation for the electric utility market. The individual will lead and support various engineering programs—New Product Introduction, Sustaining Engineering, Value Engineering, product troubleshooting, and product enhancements—for multiple Distribution Switching products such as Reclosers (Single-Phase and Three-Phase), Sectionalizers, Capacitor Banks, Padmount Switchgear, and Sensors.

The role requires participation and contribution in technical conversations across disciplines including Firmware, Hardware, Mechanical Engineering, GUI development, Type Testing, and Functional Testing. The individual must collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams such as Manufacturing, Product Management, and Field Application Engineering. This position is ideal for an engineer who is passionate about launching new products and delivering top-tier quality solutions with a sense of urgency.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical and product lifecycle management of distribution automation product lines in categories such as lateral protection, feeder overhead switchgear, feeder underground switchgear, and grid optimization.
  • Coordinate internal and sustaining projects across business unit functions including engineering, product management, field applications, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain.
  • Own and lead the resolution of PPI/RMA issues for product lines, coordinating across departments to implement timely corrective actions.
  • Work with the Product Management team to gather requirements for new feature additions, New Product Introductions (NPIs), and Sustaining Engineering projects, and own deliverables against those requirements.
  • Coordinate with Design Engineering team members to plan and deliver requirements.
  • Lead Concept Design Reviews, Detailed Design Reviews, and Design Verification Reviews with the Chief Engineering office for NPI projects.
  • Lead product troubleshooting for field issues and development challenges, providing technical guidance to team members.
  • Define a "Design of Experiments" framework to solve problems encountered during development or field issues.
  • Use Azure DevOps to create and manage Project instances, Epics, User Stories, and Tasks for various project requirements.
  • Understand Type Testing requirements for NPI projects and plan testing; interpret IEEE/IEC standards as needed.
  • Supervise functional testing of products, define system-level test plans, and conceive use-cases and corner cases for product testing.
  • Perform system-level product testing as required and guide Test Engineering teams.

Requirements

  • BSEE, BSCS, or BSCE degree with at least 8 years of industrial experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of owning product lines for feature additions, sustaining engineering, and resolving manufacturing issues.
  • At least 5 years of development experience as a Firmware Engineer, Hardware Engineer, Test Engineer, or System Engineer.
  • Excellent understanding of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
  • Proven experience working with external design vendors for feature additions, troubleshooting, and New Product Development tasks; ability to write SOWs and Requirements documents effectively.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, and UL standards for type testing requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate with various engineering disciplines to deliver product requirements.
  • Proven track record of leading problem-solving; hands-on experience in the lab with tools such as oscilloscopes and current sources.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, goal-oriented product development environment.
  • Passion and aptitude for learning new concepts, technologies, and products.
  • Ability to work comfortably with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Firmware, Testing, and Offshore teams.
  • Strong diplomacy and conviction to drive results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
