About the role
The opportunity includes designing plumbing and fire protection systems for buildings and structures, preparing detailed drawings, coordinating with other engineers, attending meetings with clients, incorporating sustainable design methods, and participating in construction administration.
Responsibilities
- Design plumbing and fire protection systems for buildings and structures.
- Prepare drawings detailing the systems designed, including plumbing schedules, floor plans and enlarged plans, details and riser diagrams.
- Prepare sketches and narratives for early predesign packages.
- Create Revit drawings for schematic design through DD construction documents.
- Perform system design calculations, code analysis, and record-keeping.
- Select equipment for use in building systems.
- Write written reports describing the proposed systems and alternatives.
- Develop specifications tailored to project needs.
- Coordinate your work with the engineers of other disciplines.
- Attend meetings and communicate with clients to establish their needs and discuss design options with them.
- Incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings based on client needs.
- Participate in construction administration activities, including site visits, reviewing and responding to contractor submittals and RFIs; troubleshooting construction issues, and writing site observation reports.
- Mentor junior plumbing engineers/designers.
- Call City Officials and Fire Marshal office as necessary for project delivery.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years experience in the design and specification of plumbing and fire protection systems required.
- Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically UPC, IPC, IBC, ASPE standards, LEED water efficiency, TDSHS, FGI and NFPA.
- Experience designing a variety of building types which may include offices, hotels, hospitals, laboratories, and high-rise buildings.
- Ability to utilize Revit software to develop design drawings and 3D model of plumbing and piping systems is preferred.
- Ability to deliver quality work by project deadline within given time budget.
- Good communication skills essential for team-based working.
- Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment.
- Must be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges.
- Knowledge of Bluebeam, Excel, Word and Navisworks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical or environmental engineering.
- Professional Engineering License preferred or ASPE CPD (Certified in Plumbing Design).
- Sound knowledge in plumbing engineering fundamentals.
Skills

- Knowledge of sustainable design methods.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Excel, Word, and Navisworks.

Pay
Houston Hiring Range: $120,000 - $136,000 per year.
