The Christman Company is an employee-owned national general contractor seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist for its Lansing, Michigan office.
Responsibilities
- Track and measure payroll services for timeliness and accuracy, including performance of payroll partners and internal processes to drive end-to-end efficiency.
- Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of all payroll-related feeds to finance.
- Perform and oversee accurate, correct, and timely payroll reconciliations and audits; troubleshoot issues that arise.
- Prepare payroll audits and advise the payroll department on complex transactions.
- Maintain data integrity in human capital management and payroll systems; resolve discrepancies surrounding payroll issues.
- Determine and produce reports to prevent and detect issues affecting taxation and payroll.
- Fulfill wage garnishment requirements by completing forms, adjusting payroll records, documenting and transmitting withholdings, and negotiating with collection agencies.
- Remit tax payments by collecting and verifying data; prepare federal, state, and local tax reports and W2 statements; initiate payment.
- Train team members on new and enhanced operational procedures and policies.
- Identify process improvement initiatives and define standards for new department processes.
- Provide coverage for team members as a back-up during vacations or high-volume work efforts.
- Supervise and coach payroll specialists; provide training and guidance as needed.
- Assist with the annual benefit open enrollment process.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
- Two or more years of experience in payroll and benefits.
- Two or more years of experience with job costing, prevailing wage, and union environments.
- Familiarity with payroll software, human capital management systems, and MS Office (emphasis on Excel).
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for the above.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid knowledge of FMLA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other benefit-related regulations.
Schedule
- Full-time, onsite position in Lansing, Michigan.
- Extended hours and weekends may be required.
- Minimal travel required; majority during work hours, with occasional overnight stays.
