Senior Payroll Specialist
About the role
The Senior Payroll Specialist at Probst Electric Inc. is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of multi-state payroll for the organization, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role serves as a subject-matter expert on payroll operations, resolving complex pay issues, supporting audits, and partnering with Human Resources, Finance, and Accounting to maintain the integrity of payroll data.
This experienced professional works in a high-volume, multi-entity, or unionized environment, handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism. They administer payroll-related deductions and contributions, reconcile payroll accounts, and prepare reports for Finance and Accounting. They also serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, researching and resolving complex pay issues with professionalism.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive payroll processing experience, including multi-state payroll.
- Experience with Union Payroll preferred.
- Working knowledge of payroll and timekeeping systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, UKG, or comparable platforms) and proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, payroll tax requirements, and garnishment processing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) through the American Payroll Association.
- Experience processing payroll in a high-volume, multi-entity, or unionized environment.
- Experience supporting payroll system implementations, upgrades, or process-improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with general ledger reconciliation and integration between payroll and accounting/ERP systems.
