Senior Mechanical design engineer (Creo and GD&T) Hybrid

About the Role

Researches, plans, analyzes, designs, and develops mechanical products such as ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, mechanisms, and other devices. Performs technical analysis, testing, and evaluation of moderately complex engineering problems using specialized equipment and computer programs. Analyzes and interprets design specifications, drawings, documents, models, and test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.

Develops and writes technical documentation, revises existing documentation, and provides input to technical papers or presentations. May deliver technical presentations related to production support activities. Creates and maintains product parts, assemblies, and drawings using PTC Creo Parametric 11 modeling software. Performs complex engineering design, development, analysis, experimentation, test, and product assurance tasks of limited complexity for a range of engineering design and analytical theory, principles, techniques, and practices.

Develops and maintains effective relationships with customers. Acquires and maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines, industry practices, trends, and applications. Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety policies and rules. Provides input to project leaders for the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain product parts, assemblies, and drawings using PTC Creo Parametric 11 modeling software.
• Perform complex engineering design, development, analysis, experimentation, test, and product assurance tasks.
• Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documents, models, and test results to ensure compliance with engineering standards and product requirements.
• Develop and write technical documentation, revise existing documentation, and provide input to technical papers or presentations.
• Deliver technical presentations related to production support activities.
• Work with internal or external shops to manufacture designs.
• Maintain effective relationships with customers.
• Stay current with relevant engineering disciplines, industry practices, trends, and applications.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and rules.
• Provide input for project plans, schedules, and budgets.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or relevant technical discipline) plus 4 years of relevant experience, or an M.S. degree and 2 years of experience.
• Minimum 4 years of work experience in a relevant environment (not to exceed 15 years preferred).
• Working knowledge of creating moderately complex solid models and mechanical designs using CAD systems, preferably PTC Pro-E or CREO.
• Ability to solve moderately complex technical design and development problems requiring professional-level engineering knowledge.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Skills

• Working knowledge of GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5-2009 or -2018).
• Working knowledge of Tolerance Stack Analysis.
• 2+ years of experience with Creo modeling and drawing generation.
• Experience with EPDM system, preferably Windchill.
• Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards.
• Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines.
• Experience in a military product production environment (preferred).
• Experience in developing precision assembly tooling (preferred).
