Senior Mechanical/Design Engineer
About the role
The Senior Design Mechanical Engineer at FARO is a key contributor responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging for FARO's metrology products. This position is hybrid, requiring 2-3 days per week in the office.
Responsibilities
- Support projects from concept to production in close coordination with related departments and vendors
- Serve as a subject matter expert for product external design including industrial design, plastic molded part design, and user interfaces
- Conduct feasibility studies of designs and concepts using engineering principles and FEA software
- Develop and coordinate with vendors to provide finished work that meets requirements
- Perform hands-on assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of prototypes to ensure design requirements are met
- Analyze and refine high-level requirements
- Develop assembly, calibration, and compensation techniques
- Build Bill of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing and assembly
- Guide and assist operations with creation of assembly instructions
- Act as a mentor to other mechanical engineers and designers in areas of expertise
Requirements
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical/industrial engineering experience. Preference towards 10 years of relevant experience
- Mechanical design using Solidworks or similar CAD package
- Surface modeling using Solidworks or similar CAD package
- Design of injection molded parts
- Industrial design and evaluation of products for improved product user interaction (UI/UX)
- Drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Design of machined, sheet metal, and cast parts
- System error budgets and tolerance stack-ups
- Finite element analysis (FEA) using Solidworks Simulation or ANSYS
Qualifications
Preference given to candidates with experience in aerospace, automotive, construction, and public safety industries.
