This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, including Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

About the role

We are in search of a Manufacturing Engineering Senior Manager who will lead a skilled team of experienced Manufacturing Engineers in providing critical early-lifecycle production planning expertise to the teams designing spaceflight systems. You will work with innovative processes and share in the team’s impact on all aspects of manufacturing engineering.

Day-to-day responsibilities include strategic manufacturing plan development and maintenance, balancing priorities, managing work order authoring, and mentoring employees. We emphasize design for manufacturing and hands-on technical ability, with engineers directly involved in design, analysis, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and collaboration.

This position is for First Shift (A-Shift).

Responsibilities

  • Enable the success of a team of high-impact Manufacturing Engineers
  • Establish roles, responsibilities, and accountability for all team members
  • Ensure workflow and priorities are balanced across the team
  • Evaluate staffing requirements and grow the team by recruiting and hiring top-performing manufacturing engineers
  • Coordinate and work closely with program managers, operations leaders, and Integrated Product Team Leads to meet design, build, and test objectives
  • Support the team in applying robust, consistent, and reliable engineering fundamentals in fabrication processes
  • Create data-gathering tools for tracking and improving team performance
  • Review and ensure compliance with company-wide processes and command media
  • Help your team define how to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flight
  • Promote DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen feedback between design, build, and test
  • Engage in Manufacturing Bill of Material (BOM) creation, maintenance, and Product Structure definition
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and support to engineers for goal-setting, career paths, and professional development

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (or other relevant fields) from an accredited university
  • Experience managing people, projects, or programs
  • Strong coordination, personnel, and project management skills
  • Experience in hardware manufacturing (e.g., castings, forgings, additively manufactured components, welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing, and Manufacturing Execution Systems/Software)
  • Proven experience developing new manufacturing processes and improving existing ones
  • Ability to operate, make decisions, lead, and progress in ambiguous environments
  • Understanding of entire product lifecycle management
  • 7+ years of direct manufacturing and/or manufacturing engineering experience
  • Proficiency in engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing
  • Ability to execute effective written and verbal communication at all organizational levels, including C-Suite leaders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (or other relevant fields) from an accredited university
  • Familiarity with FAA CFRs, industry methodologies, and OSHA requirements
  • Experience developing, writing, and updating operating procedures
  • Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, MSG-3, 5-S, FMEA, PRA, and lean process awareness
  • Certification and/or training in human factors/human performance skills
  • Experience in new, startup, or ambiguous operational environments
  • Proficiency in business and engineering software (e.g., MS Office, Windchill, PLM)
  • Experience with critical operations where real-time decision-making affects success
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with a track record of driving sophisticated projects with minimal guidance

Pay

Base pay range for WA applicants: $171,093.00 - $239,529.15. Other site ranges may differ.
