Job Summary

CAIR Legal Defense Fund (CAIR LDF) is seeking a full-time Senior Litigation Attorney to join their team. This position is remote but based at their Washington, D.C., headquarters. The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience in constitutional and complex civil rights litigation in federal court, a demonstrated ability to lead litigation strategy, and a deep commitment to civil rights and government accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Leading or co-leading trial teams and collaborating on case strategy
  • Independently managing all aspects of litigation, including fact investigations, expert discovery, depositions, drafting and arguing motions, trial preparations, and oral arguments
  • Supervising and mentoring junior attorneys and legal fellows, including reviewing legal work, coaching on litigation practice, and promoting skill development
  • Participating in appellate litigation, alternative dispute resolution proceedings, and settlement negotiations
  • Training and coaching CAIR LDF staff as requested
  • Attending continuing legal education seminars and staying updated on changes in the law

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in constitutional and complex civil rights litigation in federal court
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage litigation strategy
  • Experience supervising junior attorneys or staff
  • Ability to handle hearings, oral argument, and trials independently
  • Experience with Section 1983 and other federal statutes
  • Knowledge of First and Fourth Amendment violations, unlawful law enforcement practices, surveillance and watch listing, RLUIPA violations, and systemic discrimination

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice law in at least one state or the District of Columbia
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in civil rights litigation
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for civil rights and government accountability

Pay

The salary for this role is $130,000 annually. The compensation for this role is set and not subject to negotiation.
