About the role
The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Senior Insurance Examiner (Supervisor) to supervise, direct, and review the day-to-day work of staff performing ongoing risk-focused financial analyses of licensed entities. This role operates under the general direction of the Supervising Insurance Examiner.
Responsibilities
- Conduct reviews of the financial aspects of corporate affairs applications and filings requiring the Department’s approval to ensure compliance with the California Insurance Code, California Code of Regulations, Department-issued Bulletins and Notices, the NAIC Accreditation Program Manual, and Financial Analysis Division policies and procedures.
- Supervise and direct staff in performing financial analyses of licensed entities.
- Participate in governmental decisions that may affect personal financial interests, requiring completion of a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) within 30 days of appointment, annually, and within 30 days of leaving the position.
Requirements
- Completion of a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) is required due to the position’s designation under the Conflict of Interest Code. Non-compliance may result in voiding of appointment, financial penalties, or enforcement actions.
- Effective July 1, 2025, employees are subject to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025, which involves a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly PLP 2025 leave credits. The posted salary ranges do not reflect this pay reduction.
- Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification.
- Required documents (e.g., degree, transcript, license, certificate) must be submitted to verify qualifications. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Qualifications
Eligible applicants include individuals currently in the classification, those eligible for lateral transfer, reinstatement, list or LEAP eligibility, or those in the process of obtaining list eligibility. SROA and/or Surplus candidates are given priority.
Pay
- Salary Range A: $8,312.00 - $10,844.00 per month
- Salary Range B: $9,132.00 - $11,929.00 per month
- Salary Range C: $9,132.00 - $11,929.00 per month
- Salary Range D: $10,026.00 - $13,123.00 per month
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate range when applicable.
