About the role

The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Senior Insurance Examiner (Supervisor) who supervises, directs, and reviews the day-to-day work of staff performing ongoing risk-focused financial analyses of licensed entities. Under general direction of the Supervising Insurance Examiner, the incumbent conducts reviews of the financial aspects of corporate affairs applications and filings requiring the Department’s approval to ensure compliance with the California Insurance Code, the California Code of Regulations, the Department’s issued Bulletins and Notices, the NAIC Accreditation Program Manual, as well as the Financial Analysis Division’s policies and procedures.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The appointee is required to complete a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700), including an Assuming Office filing within 30 days of appointment, annual filings, and a Leaving Office filing within 30 days of physical separation. Non-compliance may result in voiding of appointment, financial penalties, or enforcement actions.

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 and related Pay Differential 386. PLP 2025 requires employees to receive a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct, and review the day-to-day work of staff performing ongoing risk-focused financial analyses of licensed entities.

Requirements

Qualifications

Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility may apply. SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority.

Pay

  • Range A: $8,312.00 - $10,844.00 per month
  • Range B: $9,132.00 - $11,929.00 per month
  • Range C: $9,132.00 - $11,929.00 per month
  • Range D: $10,026.00 - $13,123.00 per month
