The Senior Industrial Mechanic provides senior level mechanical experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various industrial, mechanical, and manufacturing equipment.

The Senior Industrial Mechanic provides senior level mechanical experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various industrial, mechanical, and manufacturing equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Diagnoses, identifies, and determines equipment failures; identifies cause and ensures appropriate and professional repairs are completed by the mechanics.
  • Inspects and tests completed work to ensure repairs were performed according to standards; provides direction and leadership for industrial equipment serving the water utilities and other departments.
  • Researches and orders parts needed for repairs, maintains records of purchases and installations according to established procedures, and keeps inventory of items needed for industrial, mechanical, and manufacturing equipment and vehicles.
  • Demonstrates proper work methods and safety procedures to other mechanics and helpers to ensure that work is performed in a proper and safe manner and to assist with complex repairs.
  • Inspects and executes repair, replacement, fabrication, modification, and installation of various types of plant equipment including but not limited to horizontal and vertical suction and turbine pumps; gate, butterfly and plug, valves; chemical generation and application equipment; and all other related equipment in a timely manner to allow continuous operation of plant facilities when equipment malfunctions occur.
  • Changes belts, oil, filters, greases bearings, clean, lubricates or replaces parts on various mechanical and electrical equipment; troubleshoots mechanical and electrical equipment and provides expertise on industrial, mechanical, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Serves as lead worker over lower-level mechanics.
  • Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the mechanical systems assigned.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principals of maintenance and repair.
  • Skill in the use of appropriate hand tools and repair techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and diagrams contained in the manufacturer’s manuals.
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose problems.
  • Ability to operate computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Education

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED. Experience: Five (5) years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of industrial equipment, including advanced troubleshooting and complete replacement of industrial pumps for a large municipality, including Traveling Water Screens, Centrifugal Blowers, Compressors, Valves, Gearboxes (Various), and/or OZONE Generator Equipment is required.

Licenses And Certifications: Valid driver's license with good driving record. For Distribution positions, Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is required.

Vocational degree in industrial mechanics, water plant operations, mechanical transformers and the required licensure will replace two (2) years of the required years of experience.

Preferred: For Wastewater Plants, experience in Chemical Feed Pumps, minimum of 6” centrifugal pumps, 1750 RPM and above Gear Boxes, and experience in repair of Screen Rakes, Sluice Gates, and Screw conveyors is highly preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) call-out and stand-by rotation.
  • Subject to working in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, climb, and be available at various shifts.
  • Must be able to perform work outdoors, often in inclement weather, and industrial environments.

Pay

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
