About the role
The Senior Director, Impact collaborates with the Impact Leadership Team to meet all departmental goals and supports the overall development and management of their staff. This role oversees the implementation of all programmatic aspects of the City Year program, including managing and holding School Partnership Directors and their teams accountable for delivering service, identifying professional development needs, strengthening school partner relationships, and supporting the AmeriCorps member experience through professional development.
Responsibilities
- Drive the implementation of City Year’s Whole School, Whole Child (WSWC) Tier 1 supports and Tier 2 interventions with a high degree of quality to the right students, in the right dosage, across the site.
- Ensure the quality and consistency of specific WSWC model components across all school sites, including:
- School climate activities and organizational initiatives (Tier 1 events)
- Extended Day programming
- SEL programming implementation
- Academic Interventions
- Conduct observations of AmeriCorps Member Tier 1 and Tier 2 service with Impact Managers and share explicit strategy ideas based on observations and data.
- Use City Year Culture and Values to support and carry out service implementation.
- Gather, analyze, and utilize data effectively to manage and track progress toward Impact Operating Goals at individual schools and across the Village.
- Oversee data collection and input by Impact Managers, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Utilize data to inform decisions, strategy, and coaching/support of Impact Managers.
- Leverage the Site Evaluation Manager to train the City Year team on using student progress monitoring systems.
- Implement feedback and accountability structures to keep AmeriCorps Members and staff on track to achieve goals.
- Lead, manage, and coach a team of up to 6 Impact Managers and 60 AmeriCorps members to achieve service performance requirements, meet organizational standards, and reach leadership development potential.
- Plan and execute the onboarding of new Impact Managers, including creating a 30-60-90-day plan tailored to their learning style.
- Drive Impact Manager preparation for AmeriCorps Member support and partnership management through meaningful trainings at the start of each service year.
- Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings to coach, mentor, and support Impact Managers in improving AmeriCorps Member program delivery, leadership, and experience.
- Perform monthly observations of AmeriCorps Member service implementation with Impact Managers, identifying growth opportunities for both corps and staff.
- Use the performance management process to coach team members toward individual development and performance goals.
- Hold bi-weekly Village Meetings to address trends and foster necessary mindsets and skills in Impact Managers.
- Co-develop a comprehensive professional development plan for the Impact Team and lead portions of it within Impact Team Meetings.
- Coordinate service-related training and development experiences for AmeriCorps Members across the village with the Learning and Development Team and Impact Managers.
- Build a positive culture where staff and AmeriCorps Members feel valued, supported, challenged, and successful.
- Consistently use elements of City Year Culture and Values to support team growth and development.
- Foster deep, mutually beneficial, transformational partnerships with Miami-Dade County Public School leadership and school site leaders.
- Serve as the primary liaison to MDCPS Executive Directors, coordinating collaborative school visits, shared problem-solving, and two-way feedback.
- Communicate key updates from MDCPS with the Impact Leadership Team and broader Impact Team.
- Engage with City Year Miami Board Members as leader of the AmeriCorps Member Experience Committee to improve member-level outcomes.
- Coach Impact Managers and Team Leaders on building school relationships by understanding and meeting teacher and school needs.
- Adapt the WSWC model as necessary to meet changing conditions and needs across the village.
- Work in partnership with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Support Team, including Instructional Supervisors and Curriculum Support Specialists.
- Oversee the Summer Onboarding of all Impact Team Members, reviewing essential content for the coming fiscal year.
- Develop and maintain an effective 30-60-90-day onboarding plan for incoming Impact Managers and Impact Directors.
- Coordinate with Impact Team Members to support the onboarding of new staff in alignment with the 30-60-90 plan.
- Own the planning and execution of City Year Miami Impact Team Meetings, focusing on team-level learning and development.
- Engage Impact Directors, Managing Director of Impact, and other Impact Team Members as leaders in Impact Team Meeting spaces, allowing ample time for planning and preparation.
- Participate in bi-weekly Directors Meetings to support continued site advancement.
- Lead high-priority projects across the site collaboratively and inclusively, involving Team Leaders and AmeriCorps Members when applicable.
- Work closely with Impact Directors from other villages to align Village Meetings.
- Manage village and school team budgets responsibly to support broader site sustainability.
- Engage actively as a member of the City Year Miami team and national network by participating in conference calls, responding to emails, and completing necessary tasks.
- Lead select site and network initiatives.
- Engage fully in the recruitment and confirmation of Returning AmeriCorps Members by interviewing and participating in the selection committee.
- Assist with MLK Day, Opening Day, Annual Luncheon, and other site-wide designated events.
- Attend overnight events, including Pro-Serve (a conference for all City Year Impact staff held in Boston) and other local and national events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Master’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Urban Studies, Youth Work, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in education and/or non-profit management preferred.
- City Year/AmeriCorps experience a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and inspire a diverse team of young adults in educational, community service, or youth development organizations.
- Demonstrated management and team leadership experience.
- A strong track record of coaching other adults to reach specific outcomes and goals.
- Experience bringing together and facilitating diverse groups of individuals for a common purpose.
- Strong strategic thinking, communication, and creative problem-solving skills in ambiguous, entrepreneurial, and dynamic environments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including building collaborative structures, team environments, and partnerships.
- Ability to work with and interact with multiple, diverse stakeholders.
- Flexibility, persistence, and the ability to prioritize and take initiative in a fast-changing environment.
