Senior Health Insurance Rates Examiner (Hybrid)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Review and analyze complex health insurance rate filings
- Determine compliance with Virginia statutes, administrative letters, and regulations
- Identify deficiencies in the filings and communicate with companies to obtain information, corrections, and amendments
- Maintain clear and accurate records of filings in SERFF and other general office software applications in accordance with section procedures
- Communicate with insurers verbally and in writing about results of a review
- Respond to internal and external inquiries and requests for information
- Affiliate with drafting and updating procedures
- Train staff; lead meetings; and collaborate with Commission staff, industry personnel, and other state or federal agencies
- Stay informed on federal and state rules and regulations and complete continuing education in the insurance industry
- Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Four (4) or more years of professional experience in the insurance industry, preferably in health insurance underwriting, premium development, or rating
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, risk management and insurance, statistics, or a related field is desirable but not required with eight (8) or more years of relevant professional experience
- Considerable knowledge of insurance terminology, laws, and regulations applicable to the development or regulation of insurance rates and/or insurance underwriting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including MS Excel
- Ability to read, review, and analyze insurance rates and related forms
- Ability to interpret and understand relevant sections of Virginia insurance laws and regulations
- Exceptional research and comprehension skills, including analysis and the application of critical thinking skills
- Ability to manage tasks independently and remain focused on work for extended periods of time
- Ability to train staff
- Ability to consistently make meaningful contributions to group work, projects, or initiatives
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with SCC staff and industry personnel
- Insurance related certifications and designations are a plus
